Historical note
The Prism, a Colgate University student publication, was founded in 1986. According to the February 1987 issue, its aim was "to promote human diversity at Colgate." The publication evolved over the years, transforming in format from a newspaper to a literary magazine. In 2002 it called itself "Colgate's #1 source for multicultural news," and by 2005 defined itself as "an outlet in which students of color and the 'minority' organizations on campus may use to express their voices."
