Scope and Contents
This collection contains twenty-three diaries written by Eliza Eaton between 1860 and 1888. It also contains a photograph of Eliza and three undated photographs taken by C.W. Palmer of the Eaton home in Hamilton.

Biographical note
Eliza Eaton was married to George Eaton, President of Madison University (later known as Colgate University) from 1856-1868. She first came to Hamilton, New York, in 1833 when her husband began a position at Hamilton Literary and Theological Institute, and died at age 86 on January 18, 1893, in Liberty, Missouri. She was remembered for "cultivating the most cordial social relations between the citizens of the village and the members of the faculties, their families, and the students."
