Scope and Contents

The Colgate University Commencement collection contains two series. The first consists of programs, photographs, newspaper clippings, transcripts of speeches, and a small number of VHS tapes and DVDs from graduation weekend events at Colgate University and its predecessor institutions, Madison University and Hamilton Literary and Theological Seminary. The majority of documents are from commencement exercises, but material from baccalaureate ceremonies and reunions is also included. The second series contains diplomas and certificates. Many are from graduates who went on to play prominent roles at Colgate as professors and administrators.

This collection includes a small number of VHS tapes and DVDs. Access to these items may be limited depending on the physical condition of each item, as well as the department's ability to support the playback of recordings stored on outdated media.
