Scope and Contents
This collection includes articles, books, and materials relating to his radio show and cartoon strip, “Millions of Years Ago!” which Whitnall shared with the Colgate community, in addition to his personal correspondence. Manuscripts relating to his geological studies and a memory book from Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon are included as well.

Biographical / Historical
Mr. Harold Orville Whitnall was born on August 3, 1877, in Morristown, New Jersey. As a Colgate student, Mr. Whitnall was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. After graduating, he went on to study at Harvard from 1902-1903 and returned to Colgate University as a professor. Mr. Whitnall taught geology for six years from 1903-1909, and later became the head of the department in 1926. That same year, his book, Dawn of Mankind, was published. Whitnall is also the author of A Parade of Ancient Animals which was published in 1936. Harold Whitnall died on May 18, 1945, two years after his 40th anniversary celebration as a professor at Colgate.
