Scope and Contents

The New York State Railways pictures were taken mainly in the City of Utica, many of them at the Forest Park carbarns and shops. Several of the pictures were taken in the vicinity of the carbarn on Main Street, Utica, across from the Union Station.

The first folder of the collection contains additional information about the numbered prints, including information known about the prints and negatives as of 1975. According to this 1975 inventory that accompanies the collection, the original nitrate negatives were discarded.

Historical Note

These prints were made from 8 x 10" nitrate negatives which were purchased by Henry A. Harter in Herkimer in about 1939.

In 1975 a set of the prints was made for the Special Collections department at the Colgate University Libraries.
