Historical note

According to a letter from club president C. Charles Butterfield, the aim of the Burschen Club was to "give neutrals a chance to have more social life at Colgate, to live together in one house, and to have an exclusive boarding club ... at approximately the same cost to members as it now costs them for the university's room and board."

C. Charles Butterfield to George Cutten, undated, A1348, Colgate University Burschen Club records, Special Collections and University Archives, Colgate University Libraries.
